This past Sunday, I was honored to teach at my home church Bedrock Community Church as part of our summer heroes series. It was a blessing to deal with one of my favorite characters in the Scripture Abraham and teach from my life verses, Genesis 12:1-3 (ESV):
1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” While asserting that the Bible is not really a book about heroes but broken people that God uses, the big questions I posed were: Who was Abraham? How was he involved in the mission of God? How did God bless Abraham? Why? What is God's blessing? And how has God blessed us so that we might be a blessing to the nations? It was a fun message because it begins with a clip of Brett Favre's greatest game and because I got to preach in the national soccer jersey of Bosnia-Herzigovina.
